The BISSELL Zing Bagged Canister Vacuum 4122 is a multi-surface vacuum cleaner designed to be lightweight and maneuverable. It comes with a variety of features including adjustable power, multi-surface functionality, a telescopic wand, cord rewind feature and a full bag indicator.
Overview
I recently moved and had to say goodbye to my old vertical vacuum.
In my new place, I had much larger areas with hardwood flooring and so I wanted a vacuum with these areas in mind.
After some research and shopping around, I came across the Zing from BISSELL. I’ve used BISSELL products before and I found them to be quite decent for the price.
I was skeptical at first with the Zing because of the bags. Most vacuums have adopted the bagless cup and filter design, so this felt like taking a step back.
Nevertheless, the performance is what’s important in the end. Here is what I noticed:
The manual is easy to read, and assembling the machine takes about 5 minutes. It’s nice and lightweight, and the main unit seems to be well built. The addition of wheels is also great.
Performance wise, it’s quite powerful, which I guess is why they give you the ability to adjust the power. It works really well on my hardwood and tiled floors, which is great as that’s exactly what I needed it for. On furniture and upholstery, full power seems like an attempt to fuse the two objects together; it’s way too much power. Medium to medium-high is generally best suited for most tasks.
I like also using the Zing for my stairs. The handle and weight make it a breeze to move around, however…
Carpets are a bit of a problem. It doesn’t perform too well on them. The floor nozzle just isn’t suited for carpet. Even with low pile carpets, I found its performance to be quite lackluster unless you turn the power on full and go over areas multiple times.
A few other complaints is that the cord is kind of short for large rooms, and all the maneuverability in the world counts for nothing if you’re limited by cord length. Speaking of limitations, the telescopic wand isn’t long enough if you’re of average or above height, meaning you kind of slouch at this awkward angle when cleaning floors. Really not good on your back or your posture.
The zing comes with 4 bags. 1 inside and 3 out. I’m still not a fan of the bags, though, the capacity is okay. They’re just messy and I feel like the dust just sat there and will turn into a disgusting cloud the moment I attempt to empty or replace it. It doesn’t do much to hold the allergens and particles in the machine, either.
Pros
- Adjustable power.
- Great for hardwood floors.
- Decent on stairs.
- Light and easy to maneuver.
Cons
- Bad for posture (depending on your height).
- Not as multi-surface as it claims to be.
Verdict
The BISSELL Zing 4122 almost feels like a vacuum from the 90s that’s been updated for increased versatility. Only, in some areas, such as carpets, it kind of falls flat. It’s great for hardwood and stairs, and decent for furniture.
Although the unit itself is pretty lightweight and easy to maneuver around, the hose is a little too short for the average person, and the cord isn’t quite long enough.
Overall, despite the good reviews it got on Amazon.com, I don’t feel there’s anything really special, or innovative about this vacuum.
Unless you’re just looking for an ordinary vacuum that’s good for cleaning your hardwood, I recommend checking out some of BISSELL’s other vacuums.
